Coping with Students At-Risk for Suicide

Presented by Shane G. Owens, Ph.D., ABPP

Dr. Owens will cover the latest research and expert opinions on risk factors, warning signs, and environmental circumstances that contribute to suicide in youth. Participants will have the opportunity to practice approaching, assessing, and making decisions about students at risk for suicide. Finally, he will describe one model for appropriate systemic intervention for at-risk students. About the Trainer: Dr Owens is an authority on behavioral risk management working with schools and colleges on training staff on suicide prevention and other behavioral interventions. He maintains a private practice on Commack, NY, and specializes in the behavioral and cognitive treatment of college students and emerging adults. He is the 2017-2019 President of the Suffolk County Psychological Association. The Participants: This workshop is intended for all staff charged with maintaining the mental, physical, and behavioral health of students. Some mental health training is expected.
