Three distinguished Psychologists will speak on topics which have an immediate and significant impact on current psychological practice in schools, clinical settings, and private practice.

11:00-11:30AM: Registration and Greeting

11:30-12:00 Noon: Dr. Anthony Panteleno,

Dr. Anthony Pantaleno, NYASP 2007 School Practitioner of the Year, will present on both the opportunities and challenges to school psychology practice. This will include his work in the area of Social Emotional Learning, as well as a discussion of the attempted incursions by other groups into service delivery areas traditionally provided by school psychologists and why this practice MUST be ended. Learning Objectives to include:

1. Describe a nationally validated framework for SEL and how individual practitioners may positionthemselves for leadership roles in the SEL movement

2. Discuss the need for increasing school psychologist visibility with administrators, teachers, and parents – the true antidote for the current plague of "consultant fever"

3. Advocate for a renewed teaming of school practitioners with classroom teachers as the best bridge to our most direct consumers - students with mental health needs.

12:00 Noon-12:30PM: Dr. Barbara Fontana

Dr. Barbara Fontana, Past President, SCPA, Current Co-Chair of NYSPA’s Crisis in Private Practice committee will present on the work of her committee and the variety of current challenges to psychologists involved in independent or solo practices. Learning Objectives to include:

1. Participants will learn how anti-trust laws affect what professionals can do to advocate for appropriate reimbursement rates

2. Participants will learn what NYSPA's Crisis in Private Practice Task Force is doing to help psychologists in private practice

3. Participants will learn what APA's Practice Directorate is doing to help psychologists in private practice

12:30PM-1:00PM Dr.David Trueman,Esq.,

Dr.David Trueman, Esq., long time NCPA member and a practicing psychologist and attorney will present on the variety of threats to practice with an emphasis on risk management. Learning Objectives to include:

1) Understand the legal issues surrounding the practice of psychotherapy

2) Understand how to reduce exposure to lawsuits

3) Identify psychotherapeutic situations that are most problematic from a legal standpoint

Registration must be paid in full before you will be admitted to the convention. Only checks and cash will be accepted; no purchase orders or credit cards can be accepted. No phone registrations will be accepted. There will be no exceptions.

Since our contract with the Maine Maid sets a minimum number of participants, all money must be collected by 5/09/08 in order for the program to take place.

On-site registration will be an additional $5.00, if space permits.

CE CREDITS: Certificates of completion for continuing education credits will be awarded to psychologists and others, who attend the entire workshop, complete the evaluation form and submit a $15.00 check to NPSI-CE. Partial credits will not be awarded. Late arrivals and early departures will preclude receipt of the certificate. The Nassau Psychological Services Institute (NPSI) is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists.
