ABOUT THE PROGRAM

"Modern Couples and Family Crises"

Family Therapy Integration has proven to be effective in the treatment of couple and family relationships (Lebow, 2014, Pitta, 2014). Come and learn from six faculty members of the St. John's Integrative Couple and Family Therapy program how to conceptualize treatment of the following cases. There will be ample time for audience participation in their reactions to presentations.

Sex, Spirituality, Anger & Broken Promises: Can this Couple Save Themselves and Each Other?

Couple holding on by a few threads of desire laced with spirituality, lack of sexual engagement, anger and depression looks for ways to heal their bond. Patricia Pitta Ph.D., ABPP will present her conceptualizations of the case from an Assimilative Family Therapy model (AFT), Joel Block Ph.D., ABPP will discuss his conceptualization from an Integrative Couples Systems model, and Jim Walkup Ph. D. from an Integrative Internal Family/Spiritual Systems model.

Couple Caught In a Gilded Cage: Held Hostage through Their Respective Traumas

An unmarried couple “living apart together” each having had three “failed” marriages are held hostage by their own respective traumas as they continue to re-traumatize each other. She presents as a bird caught in a gilded cage. He presents as the bird keeper who is always trying to" have” the bird as his own while simultaneously smothering and nearly choking the very object of his desire. Corinne Datchi Ph.D., ABPP will conceptualize case from an Integrative Functional Family Therapy model. Evelyn Rapoport Ph.D. will conceptualize case from Embodied Integrative Couple Therapy model and Jo-Ann Magdoff Ph.D. will conceptualize case from an Integrative Emotionally Focused model.
